Psychoanalytic Institutes and International Psychoanalytic University (IPU) co-jointly reach out to the public
After last year’s most successful debut of psychoanalysis in context of the „Long Night of Sciences“ we did it again: on June 13, 2015 humidity alternating with heavy rains outside - almost 2000 visitors of all ages and backgrounds made their way to participate in the rich program, that members of all Institutes had thoroughly prepared during the adjacent year. Again we were welcome guests of the IPU, independent participant of the „Long Night“ themselves, in their embellished rooms and outdoor facilities with catering. All the work and effort beforehand was dwarfed at the sight of so many people milling around, socializing with each other, standing in small discussion groups, browsing through the comprehensive supply of new psychoanalytic literature that our reliable bookseller offered.
Because of the diversity among ourselves of ways to understand, think about and practice psychoanalysis, there was a wide range of short lectures, guided experience, group discussions, presentations, films; the lecturers being young colleagues who maybe had the heart for the first time as well as „old timers“ and just ordinary practitioners who provided insight into their workshop. The same is true for their subjects: thinking about „classical“ psychoanalysis, new ways in research, working with children and youth, single or in groups, discussing ardent socio-cultural topics under psychoanalytic perspective.
On a tangent, though greatly important, the organization team not only worked together efficiently to the end of another success, but helped to lay down barriers and prejudices and to create an atmosphere of loyalty and acceptance which was mirrored in the apparent satisfaction of the visiting public.
