The German Psychoanalytic Society (DPG) is a scientific association. It brings together psychoanalysts who have completed advanced training recognised by it. Their tasks are the maintenance, development and dissemination of psychoanalysis, founded by Sigmund Freud and since then developed in research, teaching, therapy, prevention and all other applications.
The German Psychoanalytic Society also cooperates, especially in professional policy issues, closely related to the German society for psychoanalysis, psychotherapy, psychosomatics andPsychology (DGPT) and with other societies.
The DPG is aware of their special responsibility for the future of psychoanalysis in Germany. This responsibilityalso comes from dealing with the history of psychoanalysis in Germany, the behaviour of DPG analysts in the time of national socialism and the expulsion of the Jewish psychoanalysts in the years from 1933 to 1945.
