IPA Privacy Policy

Introduction

The IPA takes privacy issues seriously and is committed to protecting information that it holds in its database about its members, IPA candidates, and non members. This policy explains what information the IPA has in its database about you, how that information is used, to whom it is disclosed and how it is stored and protected. This information is processed by IPA staff in its central office in London or on occasion by trusted third parties for example for congress registrations.

What information do we keep about you?

It is a condition of IPA membership that your name, society, addresses, languages, telephone numbers and email addresses, together with your training analyst and child analyst statuses are recorded in the IPA database. The IPA also collects other information about you, which will not be disclosed to others, such as any donations you have made, loans you have received, details of services you have requested from the IPA, including registration for conferences, purchase of publications and other such items.

How do we use your information?

The IPA uses your contact details to communicate with you and to enable you to get the most out of the IPA services available. For example, the IPA will use your contact details to distribute information about special programmes, newsletters, publications, or congress news. It will also allow you to register for conferences, make donations and buy products or other special services offered by the IPA.

To whom is your information disclosed?

Your personal information listed above is held in a password protected area of the IPA website. Each member, IPA candidate and other authorised individuals will have his or her own unique and secure password and may use it to access your information. You can modify parts of this information by going online to the IPA website and changing the information yourself.

The IPA may also share your contact details with IPA Societies, the regional psychoanalytic organisations and the supplier of the database (for maintenance purposes). Sharing your information in this way may mean transferring your data outside the European Economic Area. In providing us with your information you consent to any such transfers.

The IPA will provide a “Find an Analyst” function on its website. Your name, Society (with its contact address), your training and child analyst statuses, together with your languages will be displayed publicly on this function. You will be offered the option of selecting any part of or all of your office contact details held in the IPA database to display through this function. No personal contact data will be displayed unless you choose to allow this.

How secure is my information?

The IPA will ensure that your personal information is stored securely, using sufficient and up-to-date protection measures. On the IPA website, your personal contact details will be located in a password-protected section of the site.

Web beacons

Emails you receive from the IPA sometimes use web beacons to compile information about your interaction with such emails. (A web beacon is an electronic image, called a single-pixel, web bug, tracking bug, tracking pixel, pixel tag or clear GIF). Web beacons can recognize certain types of information on your computer such as the time and date of a page viewed, and a description of the folder where the email is stored.

You may be able to disable web beacons in email messages by not downloading images contained in the message you receive. (This feature varies depending on the email software used on your personal computer). However, this may not always disable a web beacon or other automatic data collection tools in the email message due to specific email software capabilities. For more information about this, please refer to the information provided by your email service provider.

If you receive emails or newsletters from the IPA we may automatically collect personal information about you. For example, through web beacons and personalized URLs embedded in these emails or newsletters, the IPA can track whether you’ve opened those messages and whether you’ve clicked on links contained within those messages. For more information on embedded web links, see below.

Embedded web links

Emails from the IPA often use links designed to lead you to a relevant area on the IPA website. This system allows the IPA to determine the effectiveness of our various initiatives and campaigns.

In emails, such web links may also allow the IPA to determine whether you have clicked a link in an email, and this information about the interaction may be connected to your personal data in the IPA database. If you do not want the IPA to collect information about the links that you select, you can choose not to click any links in an email that the IPA sends.

Changes to the Privacy Policy

Any changes made to this Policy will be posted on this website. We may alert you to such changes and ask you to review them from time to time. Changes to the Policy will be dated below.

How can you contact us?

If you wish to change any part of your contact details, you can do so by using the IPA website or by contacting the IPA central office for assistance. If you have a data protection enquiry, please contact the IPA Membership Secretary, by email at [email protected].
