The first International Symposium of Comparative Clinical Method took place in Vienna from 20 through 22 June involving the psychoanalysts who are interested in sharing and discussing their clinical approach in psychoanalysis, their theories and techniques as well as their way to understand psychic functioning in the session. The work groups used the WCCMP methodology with the intention to think about the concept of Transference in particular.
The small group workshops were formed of psychoanalysts coming from several Societies interested in listening to a clinical case with the goal to reflect about the theory of the technique examined from a variety of points of view.
The group moderators (David Tuckett, Marc Hebbrecth, Paola Mariotti, Olivier Bonnard , Michael Dierks, Eike Hinze and Georg Bruins) helped us indeed in this complex and challenging task. The discussion took place in a climate of deep respect of the different psychoanalytic cultures.
We were hosted in the beautiful Psychoanalytic Academy in Vienna, full of memory and significance, which is not far from Freud’s house-museum.
To work in extended discussion groups open to all the participants besides the clinical groups was very useful.
Interesting and deep reflections were made about the concept of transference ad its modulations in the different implicit and explicit psychoanalytic models.
