Presence today, to be present tomorrow.
IPA Strategic Plan 2025-2029

Heribert Blass and Katy Bogliatto assumed their leadership roles as President and Vice President of the IPA in August 2025 and will continue until July 2029. Together with the IPA’s Treasurer, Adela Escardo, they have compiled a strategic plan that gives their overarching vision for the next four years, their aims and objectives, and indicators of success. More detailed annual operational plans will emerge following discussion and agreement at board level.

‘Presence’ is the key theme of this tenure. The administration’s ambition is for the IPA to be more present in the world, both for its membership and externally, so it remains relevant and sustainable. It aims to do this by:

- Increasing the number and quality of scientific exchanges.
- Developing positive technological advances.
- Enhancing the gain from IPA membership for its members.
- Developing better relationships with relevant external stakeholders.
- Developing the attractiveness of IPA for future members.
- Increasing the impact of IPA’s Committees.
- Developing the effectiveness, efficiency and satisfaction of IPA’s Staff.

To achieve this, ten overarching strategic objectives have been identified, aiming, by the end of this administration’s tenure to have:

1. Built a strong and united Board of Trustees who understand their roles and responsibilities and share an international mindset and common values.
2. Improved the sharing of scientific information using digital tools and other methods.
3. Reviewed and strengthened the Committee Structure and developed greater cohesion and inclusion of the Committees to improve alignment with the Board.
4. Supported IPA members to feel more connected and involved.
5. Offered improved support to current candidates and attracted new ones through outreach efforts.
6. Reviewed support functions (Human Resources, Finances, Governance etc) to keep them effective and up to date.
7. Reviewed organisational structure through the Task Force on Representation & Rotation (TFRR).
8. Upheld high training standards.
9. Maintained relevance in a rapidly changing world.
10. Expanded IPA’s global presence.

IPA communications will cut across each of the 10 objectives, ensuring that the IPA’s work is best represented in all arenas. For more detail of how these objectives will be achieved, please download our strategic plan.
