Jacqueline Schaeffer (1934-2026)

A few days ago, Jacqueline Schaeffer passed away. She was a highly respected French colleague who left a profound mark through her theoretical thinking and clinical work. In 2021, we had the pleasure of publishing an audio version of one of her articles, read in her own voice. Today, this recording may take on a particular value of preservation and transmission of her intellectual and human qualities, at a time when many colleagues around the world are remembering her. Listen here.

Jacqueline Schaeffer was an honorary training analyst of the Paris Psychoanalytic Society. From 1982 to 1989, she worked as a counsellor in the offices of Michel Fain, Augustin Jeanneau, and André Green. She was a member of the editorial board of the Revue Française de Psychanalyse and deputy editor of Débats de psychanalyse. In 1987, she was awarded the Maurice Bouvet Prize for Psychoanalysis. She was the author of numerous collective volumes and many articles published in French and international journals, particularly on issues of gender and femininity. Gaetano Pelligrini, Chair, IPA Outreach Sub Committee
