IPA International Cultural Discussion Groups

The IPA’s international cultural discussion groups were established by the IPA’s Cultural Committee in May 2018. The aim of the project was to provide IPA members and candidates with opportunities to experience creative processes in their many forms. Literature, fine arts, movies, dance and theatre performance, and music, as well as philosophy, sociology and anthropology stimulate and enrich our mental processes in many ways. Engaging in these cultural activities – either as creators or recipients – is psychoanalytically meaningful and enriching.

Each discussion group contains around 10 members from all over the world who come together via Skype, Zoom, email or other means, to discuss cultural themes of their choosing in one of the IPA’s four official languages. The groups work independently; they decide the length, frequency and rhythm of their meetings, they can include further members and they can dissolve the group at any point.

Groups are currently available covering 11 different cultural areas and in each of the IPA’s four languages. If you would like to sign up and join one of these groups, you can do so using the link below. As soon as 10 participants have registered for the cultural area in the language you have chosen, you will be informed and can contact your colleagues in this group.
