UNDERSTANDING AND PSYCHOANALYTIC TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION: DIALOGUES BETWEEN CLINICIANS AND RESEARCHERS
The Argentine Psychoanalytic Association and the University of Buenos Aires with the support of IPA’s Research Committee, the Argentine Societies: APdeBA (Buenos Aires), SAP (Buenos Aires), SPM (Mendoza), APC (Córdoba) and APR (Rosario), and FEPAL’s sponsorship are pleased to invite you to participate in the 2019 Joseph Sandler Conference, to be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for the second time, from 10 to 12 May 2019.
Joseph Sandler began this conference - together with other important clinical psychoanalysts and researchers - with the aim of building bridges between psychoanalysts who work mainly in their offices and those who participate in various forms of extra-clinical research in academic institutions. Joseph Sandler was President of the International Psychoanalytic Association (API), Full Professor of the Freud Memorial Chair of the University College of London (UCL) and of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He also served as a senior scientist at the Sigmund-Freud-Institut in Frankfurt between 1986 and 1990.
The Joseph Sandler Conference, which has been held annually since 1999, brings together psychoanalysts, researchers, psychologists and doctors from around the world to discuss the current state of psychoanalytic research and its relationships with clinical psychoanalytic practice.
Next year the objective of the Conference is to increase the growing integration between clinical work and psychoanalytic research related to THE UNDERSTANDING AND PSYCHOANALYTIC TREATMENT OF DEPRESSION. This has become a pathology that predominates among the major discomforts of the twentieth and early twenty-first centuries. Depression lies at the crossroad of psychoanalytic, psychiatric and neuroscientific perspectives. These different approaches will be addressed in the context of panels and workshops presented by prestigious colleagues from our country and abroad.
Hosting the Joseph Sandler Conference in Latin America for the second time confirms the growing interest in research that has developed in the region in recent decades together with the awareness that promoting collaboration between these two disciplinary fields does not threaten psychoanalytic specificity in any way. On the contrary, the Joseph Sandler Conference will pave the way to greater openness and the inclusion of innovative ideas.
Although the main panels will be carried out in English, there will be simultaneous interpretation into Spanish of the lectures and central discussions. Their respective contents will be shown as PowerPoint presentations. In order to intensify the dialogue between the members interested in these scientific activities, on the afternoon and evening of Saturday, May 11, 2019, we plan to hold workshops in which research will be presented on different topics, either in English and / or Spanish, according to presenters.
We are sure that the Conference will offer a very interesting exchange between psychoanalysts and researchers of diverse orientation, as well as with professionals in related fields and a wider public.
