22nd ANNUAL RESEARCH TRAINING PROGRAMME

We are pleased to announce the 2018 IPA Annual Research Training Programme. The programme will be focused around the research of attending Fellows,which will be discussed in consultation by an international Faculty of IPA Visiting Professors in Psychoanalytic Research. The programme will be held from Sunday 29 April to Friday 4 May 2018 at the University of Southern California.
As in previous years, the aims of this successful training programme will be to provide attendees with opportunities for constructive consultation for their ongoing research projects and also to receive training in empirical and conceptual approaches to psychoanalytic research in a number of areas. Among these areas are: psychotherapy, personality and psychopathology, attachment and parenting, social neuroscience, developmental processes, neuropsychology, psychoanalytic process and outcome, and conceptual research.
As indicated, a central part of the experience for trainees will be the opportunity to present and discuss their own research projects and research goals with members ofthe faculty and other participants. The curriculum will include an introduction to current research methods, as well as particular applications exemplified by research programmes of members of the Faculty. The Research Training Programme will offer constructive and critical reviews of projects in a way that should facilitate grant-writing and fundraising and thus provide additional opportunities for continuing psychoanalytic research. We also anticipate that participants of the Programme will benefit from networking with consultants. They will join a network of Research Fellows within the IPA and will have opportunities for active exchanges by e-mail, list servers and conferences.
Each fellow will also be invited (but not required) to present a poster at the Joseph Sandler Research Conference: Outcome Research and the Future of Psychoanalysis, which will follow the RTP on the afternoon of Friday 4 May (and continue to Sunday 6 May) at the University of Southern California. The following speakers have been invited: Manfred Beutel, John Clarkin, Antonio Damasio, Morris Eagle, Linda Goodman, Juan Pablo Jimenez, Falk Leichsenring, Marianne Leuzinger-Bohleber, Bradley Peterson, Joshua Pretsky, Jonathan Shedler and Mark Solms. The fellows of the RTP will have the possibility to present their research projects at the poster session and discuss it with the senior scientists speaking at the conference.
The RTP is free; we plan to provide participants with suggestions for relatively inexpensive accommodation options close to the University site of our Research Training Programme. We expect that participants will be able to spend time with each other and Faculty members, both as part of the teaching programme and outside scheduled events. The Faculty members are Manfred Beutel, John Clarkin, Robert Emde, Marianne Leuzinger-Bohleber, Bradley Petersen, Clara Schejtman and Mark Solms.
