Internal World - External Reality

Internal World - External Reality
Psike Istanbul
“It is assumed here that the task of reality acceptance is never completed, that no human being is free from the strain of relating inner and outer reality.”
D.W. Winnicott

From the moment of his/her birth on, one simultaneously discovers objects in the external world and continuously recreates his/her internal objects. Internal world and external reality are both separate and intertwined; they oscillate towards both sides like a pendulum: at times in a harmonious manner, at times with violent clashes. When these clashes come to the stage, the function of psychoanalysis is to help one get aware of his/her internal world as well as enabling him/her to see and internalize the external world in its reality.
When wars continue to be waged and man-made or natural disasters follow one after the other, in this devastating time of the 21st century, what kind of interaction exists between internal world and external reality?
With the surrogates of the death instinct occupying our minds and homes every day and every minute, how can analyst and analysand possibly survive by relying on creativity in pursuit of hope in the psychoanalytic room?

We are looking forward to meeting at Bogaziçi University on the 8-9th of December 2018 to understand this uncanniness reminiscent of the scream of the moment we were born, to comprehend the world we live in and our inner worlds.
