Exploring feelings of belonging, displacement and loss during times of turmoil is the theme of the 3rd IPA Asia-Pacific Conference, which comes to Sydney, Australia in 2020.
Australia, for tens of thousands of years inhabited by people of the world’s oldest culture, is now home to successive waves of migrants from around the world, many fleeing the turmoil of wars and persecution and hopeful of a new life.
Psychoanalysis is a lens through which we can address the compulsion to repeat cycles of violence, which result in the trauma and turmoil of displacement and loss. However, if these catastrophic losses are borne and worked through, there is hope of new perspectives.
The IPA looks forward to welcoming you to Sydney, to foster understanding of the psychic impact of turmoil, as we build a culture of belonging with colleagues from around the world and in the Asia Pacific region.
