The Danish Psychoanalytic Society was formed in 1957 as a Component Society, an autonomous part of the International Psychoanalytical Association (IPA).
The Danish Psychoanalytic Society has the following tasks:
1. Organise psychoanalytic education;
2. Organise scientific meetings for members;
3. Publicise psychoanalysis as defined by the IPA.
It is one of the smallest organisations in the international association, but the number of student graduates is increasing. Education, may in special cases, open education for people from a different academic background. Currently, there are 56 members and 24 candidates, and members are specialists in psychiatry or clinical psychologists.
About a third of the members and candidates are Swedish, living in the southern part of Sweden.
